The inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha is set to commence on June 24, beginning with the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected members, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju announced. The session will conclude on July 3.
President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on June 27.
The focus will be on the dynamics between the Opposition INDIA bloc and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
During the first three days of the session, newly elected members will take their oath or affirm their membership of the Lok Sabha.
A crucial focus of the first session will be the election of the Speaker of the House, scheduled for June 26. Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, pivotal members of the NDA, may vie for the position.
In the new Lok Sabha, 280 MPs are serving their first term, while 216 MPs from the previous 17th Lok Sabha have been re-elected.
The strength of women members has marginally decreased. In the 17th Lok Sabha, there were 78 women MPs, while this time, there are only 74.
