Assassination attempt on Trump raises concerns about lapses in security measures

Donald Trump sustained a gunshot wound to the ear during an election campaign rally on Saturday due to a significant security breach. This attack is expected to profoundly impact the current presidential race and amplify concerns about potential political violence during the campaign.

Former FBI agents expressed astonishment that the rooftop, from which a gunman fired multiple shots at the rally, had not been secured, especially considering its proximity to the stage.

The FBI announced early Sunday that Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was identified as the individual involved in what they described as an attempted assassination.

The Secret Service had earlier reported the shooter’s death, along with the death of one rally attendee and injuries to two other spectators. Law enforcement officials informed reporters that they had not yet determined a motive for the attack.

According to the state’s voter records, Crooks, who was from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was registered as a Republican.
